Another little milestone to announce...
..after gaining my Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) certification back in January, I have (provisionally) passed my ISC2hashtag#cissp exam. Definitely a challenging one, with a broad range of topics from cybersecurity awareness, to risk management, to ethernet cabling standards! First considered taking this back in about 2010, so nice to finally have it under my belt! Next up is probably the hashtag#ccsp, but might give myself a little break first!
Big thanks to Mike Chapple for his LinkedIn Learning course, and to Jeffery Moore 🔐 💭 for his amazing (and free!) CISSP study resources. Couldn't have done it without these two legends.
I don't really have any tips beyond leveraging the resources above, and practicing the tests on the official app. Coming from a technical background meant I really had to dive into the various standards and frameworks, and I definitely learned a lot during the process.— Dave B

How to Prepare for the CISSP Certification in 2025
How to Prepare for the CISSP Certification in 2025 (by ExamRanch)
The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam is one of the most challenging certifications in cybersecurity. But don’t let that intimidate you! With the right approach, study plan, and mindset, you can pass it on your first attempt. This guide will help you navigate your CISSP preparation effectively in 2025.
Understanding the CISSP Exam Structure
Before diving into study techniques, it’s crucial to understand the CISSP exam structure. Knowing the format, types of questions, and adaptive nature of the exam will help you strategize your preparation.
CISSP Exam Overview
Exam Format: Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) for all languages as of April 15, 2024.
Duration: 3 hours.
Number of Questions: 100-150 (adjusts based on performance).
Domains Covered: 8 CISSP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) domains.
The CISSP CAT format dynamically adjusts question difficulty based on your responses. If you answer correctly, the next question becomes more challenging; if incorrect, it adjusts accordingly. This format ensures a precise assessment of your knowledge.
Study Techniques for CISSP Success
Once you understand the exam structure, it’s time to prepare strategically. Here are key steps to optimize your study plan:
1. Choose the Right Study Materials
Your study resources are critical for success. Invest in high-quality, up-to-date materials such as:
The Official (ISC)² CISSP CBK Reference – A comprehensive reference covering all essential CISSP topics.
Official (ISC)² CISSP Study Guide – A structured and detailed study guide for exam preparation.
Official (ISC)² CISSP Practice Tests – A valuable tool to reinforce learning and assess readiness.
GitHub CISSP Study Resources(by Jeffery W. Moore) – A collection of useful CISSP study materials and references.
MyExamCloudCISSP Practice Tests – A reliable practice test platform to track progress and improve weak areas.

Passed my CISSP this morning.
Still feeling a bit surprised. I didn’t feel like it was going that well. Obviously it’s still provisional, but passed after 126 questions and 35 minutes.
I’m not sure how much advice I can give, but my takeaway is that it’s easier for a technical person like me to pick up the non-technical content than the other way around. If you’re not familiar with the networking and OS fundamentals, dedicate time to drilling those. I expect my networking and sysadmin background is what got me through.
I mostly studied with the official app (flash cards and study questions) but also a shout out to Jeffery Moore’s excellent study notes on GitHub.
Get good at reading questions and picking out the conditions and requirements.
Thanks for being a great community and good luck on your own CISSP adventures! :)
